Supplies:
Paintshop Pro (I use V9)
Filters of choice.
Tube or image of choice , if you wish to use your mask straight away, mine is by James Courtney, he has an online usage policy on his site.
Font of choice
Open a new canvas, 400x400 and floodfill white.
Choose the preset shapes tool and set the fore- and background to black. Pick a shape that appeals to you.
Check antialias and create as vector. Draw your shape out on your canvas. Pull or push the nodes to make it bigger or smaller. Objects/Align/Center in Canvas. Convert to raster layer. Draw a second shape on top. Center it, convert to raster and merge down. Use a filter, I used DSB Flux/Mosaic Ripple. Now the whole thing moved up and to the left.
We'll fix that. Take the Raster Deform tool and stretch your mask to the edges, making sure you don't drag anything off the canvas. Crop/Snap rectangle to layer opaque. Image/Canvas Size to 400x400, placement in center. Now refill the white layer with white.

When you're happy, go to Layers/New Mask Layer/From Image. Find the mask you're creating, tick source luminance and Invert mask data.
Layers/Load/SaveMask/Save Mask to disk. Name your file. I named mine MosaicWheelBabelicious.msk. The filename must end in .msk
Now test your mask. Open a canvas 400x400, floodfill with a colour of choice, add a new raster layer, floodfill with a contrasting colour. Go to Layers/Load/Save Mask/Load Mask From Disc and find yours. Apply it and merge group. You're done.
For the mask I used in the tag I applied Toadies BlastNBlur to a Flower shape and also Richard Rosenmann Scanlines.
You can make masks using numerous shapes and filters, just have fun trying different stuff.
